The 11th February is going to be an important day for people of Iran in their fight for democracy. This is a day where all people who care for human rights stand up and demand equality and freedom for a nation who has been suppressed for years.
It is in our hands to create a brighter future not only for people in Iran, but all around the world, to reach a day that violence, suppression, executions and torture has become history.
After long and tedious discussions we have finally been able to attain the permission from the police, city council and the regional government to hold a legal gathering on the 11th of February. The purpose of the gathering is to come together in Perth city and reflect on the events and facts about our beloved homeland, Iran, for our friends, colleagues and our classmates in Western Australia. We hope to be able to get the green message of peace, freedom and human rights across through to our friends and members of the West Australian community truthfully.
Our program will not include chanting slogans or anthem. We will hold a visual exhibition of the post-election events in Iran through the gathering time. We will place a TV set at the place for showing videos of the verbally indescribable courage of the youth in Iran. We will also have music and speeches held at the place. In case any of you dear friends are interested in having a speech or reading out a poem in English to the crowd you are most welcome to contact us on Persians.Perth@gmail.com for the necessary arrangements to be done. A memorial notebook will be placed at the event for the attendants to express any sympathy, idea or memory they would want to share with others. During the event, packages including a brochure and a CD containing visual and written details of the Green movement in Iran will be distributed amongst the attendants and the passersby. The event will finish at 5:30pm after a statement is read by one of our group members.
We believe the Iranian government strongly fears the demonstrations of the people inside Iran and the gatherings held outside the borders of our homeland on the 11th of February. We see the arrest of the green activists inside Iran and threatening the activists outside Iran as a sign to this fear. We strongly believe that the movements of the Iranian communities living in foreign countries towards democracy for Iran will take part in the history of our homeland and the world. Movements such as gatherings and similar events are considered to be the least we can do in the honor of our beloved Iran.
